| I like to think of this song is about the human addiction to trash old things for the latest and greatest. It's "State of the Art" or it's the best thing for you to have at this time. It may not be the actual meaning, but I like to think of it as one. Like "Thanks For Your Time," which was satire of calling customer service, this song is like satire of our love for the next best thing. | |

| I knew this song was about the death of a friend, reading the other comments I saw that it was about a dog.The magic, though, is this could also be matched with the passing of anyone you're close to. I love songs that do that, even when you know what they actually are about they still seem they could have a larger meaning. | |

I think this song is about falling in love with someone, then you lose them and can't get over them. They met at a bar when he told her what he felt, unaware that she would end up destroying him in the future. When she leaves him (I'm assuming it's a she by the way) it's as if she had died and she now haunts him. He doesn't even understand why she can't leave him, he even begs for her to leave. This is just what I got, quite a good song full of wonderful metaphors. A side note. The line, "Was I too drunk to say what I said to you," might also imply that he wasn't thinking straight when he spoke him mind. |
