People are overthink this; it's about growing up in East Germany (Soviet Socialist State). The entire band is from Saafeld Germany, just east of the border with West Germany. Ironically, some of the indoctrination stuck; several of them are avowed Marxists. |

I've always been of the persuasion that It Burns Within is a statement in opposition of all flavors of Collectivism (ex: Socialism, Communism, Fascism etc.) and the way they stifle and numb individuality. It also serves as a reminder to those who are not benighted of this reality to fight for those, who may be unwilling to do so for themselves. That is to say; to help those who've become complacent or embraced group-think ideologies (Bernie Sanders and/or Donald Trump supporters are both great modern (if you're reading this in 2016) examples) see the light. That they are individuals, not slave to some co-dependent hive. |

@[Philipp:9383] salvador allende was an horrible racist and an authoritarian, who stole property from private citizens, consorted with terrorist organizations and suppressed the authority of the Government's Supreme Court (when they deemed some of his actions to be in violation of the rights of citizens) and the Legislator. When the Pinochet militants (who were no better than he was) came for him, he killed himself and died a coward. |
