| Ezra Furman and the Harpoons – Take Off Your Sunglasses Lyrics | 9 years ago |

I think these lyrics are a work of art. The way I view this song's meaning is not wanting to be present in the world and society without protection from being hurt. Ezra wants to stay protected because he doesn't want to feel the pain it can bring so he protects himself with his sunglasses, which is a metaphor for being ignorant of the world. Everyone is caught up with themselves and not caring about others. His girl has taken off her sunglasses and is able to experience the joy life brings. If Ezra does this, he feels he is only worthy to experience the pain. The shoelace line I believe is about taking a change and risking it even though there is a chance for bad things to happen, the good will out way the bad. Walking around without shoelaces can be dangerous, just like taking off sunglasses in front of the sun. |
