It seems the song is talking about a struggle with either a faith or a relationship during a dark time in the person’s life. The song begins with: Knocked off my feet The earth moved beneath The edge of a dream and a nightmare This illustrates how he fell down a dark path and has a hard time believing he got himself into it. He describes it as “the edge of a dream and a nightmare”. In the next verse, he admits that he chose to go down this dark path: I opened the door He also admits that this has destroyed him: I slipped through the cracks into nowhere. On the chorus, he is crying out to either God or a loved one, asking where they were when he went through that dark time.
