8 years of this song and i still struggle to find a perfect meaning that makes complete sense to me, mainly because everyone just argues about what word it used exactly and if they're even real words. but I've put some things together I didn't necessarily see mentioned, though it's badly worded for the most part because it's 7am and i havent slept all night. so theyre caged, taking it easy but wanting out, they're bored and are pretty much ready for their prize and their chance at freedom from their cage, because they are mentioned as tigers who honestly do not belong in cages. they wild. they're dried and blown like dust since they were young? idk they're dried out or somethin, blown around and are probably tired of it. they were young, the song references teen years, so basically i got that they built up this free-spirited young life that wore them, or mainly jesse, out so he's ending that. then the next part brings up "the closest thing we had to royalty" and jesse doesnt say What necessarily that thing is, but what i'm thinking is he's referencing to this recklessness, he's out of his cage so now him and whomever are just Livin it the Fuck Up, and that kinda behavior, for a little while, will make you feel on top of the world, like maybe hmmmmmm, royalty. so that behavior is the closest thing they have to royalty so they hold on to it, their teenage tragedy in lieu (meaning instead, basically), so instead of an actual romantic palace or palette (either word really). so now they have to "play tender" meaning maybe, they have to play like they're fragile and they have to let the things they do actually hurt until the nights over, and then they have the nurturing the next morning. (i also thought maybe they were sneaking around so they have to act tender and sweet, but then i was confused about the nurturing/nursing part). but then the bridge comes, hmmmm? okay so the other persons busy and he wants them to go visit him despite that, because they're just running around aimlessly because jesse says in the chorus he's ended what they created. their reckless empire, and maybe the other person is still holding on to it, so the other lad is pretty much like dying out because they stayed in tha game too long. so "aimless ghost you haunt your bag of bones" they are becoming pointless, basically. the wolf- maybe drugs, drinking, partying, whateverrrr it may be that made them tragic teenagers, is still taking over this persons life and messing with their vision, this person is basically a ghost now, numb to this lifestyle and the "wolf" messes with their vision once again, and waits while they sleep and eats their young-maybe they got kids maybe not, bc i know reckless lifestyles eat the kids moreso than the adults pretty much yknow. but it could even mean that it ate away this persons youth, because they wasted time bein crazed during their teen tears. but he says "and you will act surprised", the person was numb to this wolf, knew what to expect but was at a low point where they just pretending to be surprised at what this devilish wolf was up to. basically the song is confusing as all hell but nonetheless beautifully written, thats an idea that made the whole song flow, but knowing BN it could have multiple meanings and none of those meanings could be this one. just wanted to throw the idea out their because i never saw one like this. i also got the "love once passionate, now boring" vibe from some of it |

| Counting Crows – Perfect Blue Buildings Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| i think this song is just one with a sad tone that, despite whatever reason it was written about-it was written for us and for us to take however we want/need. i figure this because after reading through several comments i read many different ideas. and i think thats what artists are primarily trying to do, make you think, and make you see a way to make it fit into your life. if you're a struggling addict (i read comments about it being about heroin addiction), this song could speak to you in ways a lot of songs probably couldn't. me personally, i always relate it to just me. like literally i feel every lyric to this song in such an immense way, i cry every time i hear it. i struggle with severe, severe depression and the song saying things about wanting to be oblivious and away from himself, and to not be so needy, is something i can relate to on a deep level. i know i'm supposed to post some sort of factual meaning to the song, but i just feel this song is one you can mold into what you need it to mean | |
| Foxing – Quietus Lyrics | 9 years ago |

okay so, pretty much Foxing is writing about something sad as usual and when i broke down the lyrics it broke down my heart like no joke this song's fucking sad so like. the first line "you sang in the swell" was the main one that confused me but i looked at a few definitions of 'swell' and one made the most sense to me: to affect with a powerful or expansive emotion. so like, lemme break down the first part of this. "you sang in the swell, coruscating with such ordinary colors of the coast" her singing (which he isnt actually talking about real songing, he's talking about her as a whole. her ways of talking, acting, loving, etc.) is basically beautiful, it's emotional but it's ordinary, it's not like the coast at sunset or sunrise, but the ordinary regular coast colors. maybe it was a sunset before he got hurt? who knows the next part: "the champage fielding neighborhoods where you've come to know contentment, in cataracts and torrents coalescing summer songs with new partners for slumber" champagne is made by shit ya grow, so there's fields that grow that shit ya make champagne with, explaining the fielding thing. but basically he's saying shes finding contentment and comfort with the champagne because she's drinking a lot. coalesce means to come together, as a wholez so he's pretty much saying she's getting drunk, coming together with "summer songs" referencing like, summer flings, and sleeping with them. hence the "new partners for slumber". he's being PG, but he really just means she's hookin up with these summer dudes "in spite of this i am beside myself, and despite this you are the same without me", this part is pretty easy. despite her drinking and fuckin' around, he's still sad about losing her. and despite him being sad, she's just the same-doing just fine, so while he's heartbroken and "beside himself", she's just herself the next verse is also kinda like the first, you gotta think a little bit. so, "you belong further in winter body. i was made to keep you warm, please come home". so the first verse spoke about summer time and how she's behaving, now he brings up winter. "you belong further in winter body" he doesnt believe she's really that girl she is acting like during the summer, she's actually supposed to be this girl who relies on him to keep her warm, a girl who needs him pretty much because he wants her back right? like he wants her to need him and to come home. he needs her to be tired of this summertime partyin' she's doing and to come back to him. then the very last part, "but i am anchored because I can't contain you" AWWWWWW poor fellow. a simple line to end the song with followed by "please come home", "please come home, but i am anchored because i cant contain you". he's stuck in this heartache he feels, he says the word 'but' though ??? so. "BUT i am anchored...". he said to come home BUT, but because even if she comes home he is still stuck in this awful pit of heartbreak because, regardless of where she is she is now a summertime free-for-all gal who doesn't need him anymore. so basically I dissected this song after listening to it, a few hours after my heart was broken so i am now Sad. when you break it down, as a woman who hates feeling needy, i almost am happy for the woman because she's doing what she feels she needs to do without needing a person. but as a heartbreak-ee, i feel for the dude. i am sorry man, but it happens !!!!! but seriously, it's a fantastic song that they wrote beautifully, because if you HAVE to look up words and figure out exactly what they're trying to say, then BAM it's poetry. Foxing never disappoints me, very talented and very sad people. i should stop ranting now because my long explanation for the song is way past done but damn i'm having such a fun time talking about this song. personally, for obvious reasons (because i am me???) i very much believe my meaning to this song was pretty spot on, but if anyone has any ideas on things that may be different please PLEASE comment them because i'd love to know what you think. when i made this there were no comments so i need one of you Foxing fans who may or may not disagree with me to speak up because this is fun as hell and i love to know the meanings and opinions behind songs. its 5am, I haven't slept, and i ended up making this seem like a script a famous youtuber would read from so bye hope you enjoyed my idea on Quietus and maybe learned a thing or 2 !!!!!!! |
