I listen to this song when the whole world seems to be coming down of me. Let It Go is a popular slogan in 12 step recovery groups. I've seen 3 of their live performances. Wow. There are no words to truly express that lovely experience. I feel more alive and free just reliving the memories. I personally think the title is talking about how life can so often seems to be dictate us. When in reality if we open ourselves to the possibility maybe just maybe we can take control of our reactions. Jenny says, turn off the lights, turn off the music, etc. Jenny says stop being you. Jenny says you are mine and I tell you what to do. Jenny is an analogy to that nagging controlling lover. So damn it Jenny, shut up, I'm going to be me, be free and swing from the rafters. F U Jenny. I'm letting go. I take my life back. This song came to me at a period in my life that I had to say all that. My ex tried so hard to drag me down. I learned that was how he was treated.
