Dar Williams – I Won't Be Your Yoko Ono Lyrics 9 years ago
I like to think that this song is a response to the song 'You can be my Yoko Ono' by the Barenaked Ladies, which has some rather patronising lyrics about following him around everywhere and being a ball and chain.

Here the subject us saying, 'hang on a minute, what makes you so special that you think i'd want to??'

We're so used to seeing Yoko portrayed as nothing more than John's other half, so it's nice to hear someone redressing the balance. This was someone with her own hopes and dreams who spent her life being criticised. You've got to admire her strength of character.

Dar herself said it was dedicated to a mentor/teacher she had, but the title is too coincidental not to be referencing the Barenaked Ladies song at least as a point of departure.
