@[zbaile1074:9263] Don't you mean beautiful? Awe inspiring? Just kidding. It is pretty brutal. But, it is also a spellbinding, beautifully composed work of art. And art isn't a word I just toss at everything I like. |

I think it goes...
"Nothing can be so strange,
As to make me wanna stay"
It's only one word, but it's kind of a big difference. Anyway, just my opinion. Killer fucking song. Killer fucking band. Too bad no one cared back in the 90s. But isn't that the way it is, every god damned time... |

Wowie zowie.... Allow me to straighten y'all out. This song is very specifically about Charles Whitman. For those of you who don't know, Charles Whitman was a guy who, back in the early 60s I believe, climbed up to the top of an observation tower at the university of Texas in Austin and opened fire on a crowd of people below. I forget the exact figures, but I think he killed around a dozen people that day and wounded another 15 or 20. Eventually, after a long standoff, he was killed by police while trying to flee the scene. In the postmortem, investigators found in the "snipers nest" a backpack that he'd brought with him that morning that contained, amongst other things, a revolver, and several peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, thus "I'll be waiting with a gun and a pack of sandwiches" That's what's up. You're welcome. |

@[Hammlet:9145] The revolution wasn't televised as it turns out, but I agree with you. Those are the 3 best songs on that album, followed by emergency trap and glasgow mega snake. I'd be very curious to hear them do an album where they flip their usual ratio of instrumental tracks and tracks with vocal arrangements. Ive always thought they write really cool lyrics and record vocals really well too. |

I think this song is about being a drunk. The last verse is about finding a bottle stashed away somewhere, thus Secret Pint. And even if that's total nonsense on my part, that last verse is still one of the coolest things I've ever heard.
"Did my best, failed the test..."
"Did my worst, came in first..."
Been there, done that. |

What is there to really say about this? I think Iggy Pop covered everything. It makes the hairs on the back of neck stand up every fucking time I listen to it, which is to say yes, I think I understand what you're saying perfectly well Iggy. I think I do.... |

Always been my favorite song from Mr Beast. It's such a tranquil, peaceful tune, and the Japanese spoken word style vocals slay. |

I think this is easily the best song from the Earth Division EP. Makes me wonder how cool a Mogwai album of 10 acoustic-ish songs that all feature Stuart Braithwaite singing could be? I don't know, but I'd certainly spend 10$ to find out, haha |

While Mogwai have never been the cheeriest of bands, this song is crushingly sad, even by their standards. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, not hardly, but fuck, the lyrics to this are just devestating... |

I had heard most of Pedro The Lion's body of work before coming across the EP this wonderful song is from. The chorus always makes me think of my older brother. He's a pompous, self righteous asshole. We haven't spoken in years. The lyric "the bully always wins" makes me think of him as well. I wish it didn't, but it does. |

Am I the only person who finds it sort of amusing that this album starts with a song called Punk Rock that features a long sample from an interview with Iggy Pop that segues into such a somber, mournful tune as this, with its lap steel and heartbreaking, hushed vocals? It could be construed as a bit of a fuck you to the whole indie rock/post rock scene that Mogwai smashed into pieces the day that Young Team hit stores. Just an observation. Either way, this is song is pretty much everything that's wonderful about music in 6 and 1/2 minutes. |

@[churchclothes:9113] In that sense I think it's more about the dangers of ego and the virtues of modesty than religion, though I admit that the song offers a lot of symbolism that could be interpreted as religious in nature. As I said in another, there isn't really a wrong answer. |

@[churchclothes:9112] maybe but I think he's also talking about human nature in general, in that we all fuck up from time to time, or sin, or however you choose to look at it. It's a part of life, perfection is unattainable, and the greatest mistake a person can make is to deny that they are as prone to error as anyone else, that they are above the kinds of mistakes and poor judgement we are all guilty of from time to time. |

I don't have words to explain how much I love this song, but I'll try anyway. The first time that I listened to it, I felt like it was written just for me, like David Bazan was describing the story of my life. It says so many things I've felt or continue to feel, and does so in a bare minimum of words. I've been a drug addict for the last 15 years so pretty much every word of this song cuts me to the bone. Failure is not something to be feared, it's inevitable, and as such is something to be learned from. Mistakes will be made, you have to own them and try again until you get it right. And if it takes some time, a long time even, that's ok, because it isn't over till it's over, so save your applause for the end of the show, because none of us know how things are going to end. The last verse is too fucking good and too profound for me to try and distill into a specific context, so I'll leave that to the rest you to do for yourselves. There really isn't a wrong answer. In closing I'll say that while I'm not proud of my flaws, of which I have many, I'm not ashamed of them either. They are as much a part of me as my merits, and the whole of our lives can not be drawn without taking both into account. Frailty is not a liability, it is what defines us, what makes us human. Don't deny yours, and don't beat people up for theirs. Simply try to change what you can, try to accept what you can't change, and seek wisdom so that one day you may know the difference. Be good to each other, godspeed. |

@[oasisness:9100] Thank you kindly, that's nice of you to say. I'll say I learned long ago that being aware of and sensitive to the issues that other people face wouldn't keep me from being a tough minded individual as well. To the contrary, I think it takes toughness to be a compassionate person in the world today. |

@[zacharygarren:9098] Ummm.... I'm not sure of the accuracy of your statements about David Bazan. I don't know the man personally, though at once at a Headphones show, my friend and I got to buy him a few beers and talk to him for 30 minutes to an hour after they finished (he's one of the nicest people I've ever met, btw) and I would say that yes, he probably still believes in God in a manner of speaking, but has decided to walk his own path in regards to how he will bridge the distance between the almighty and himself. In the last few years he's gone on record basically saying as much. I'm not trying to start any static, I'm just not sure you have your facts completely straight. But in all fairness you wrote that post 11 years ago, haha, so he probably hadn't arrived at those conclusions at that time. |

@[eyzovblu:9097] Those words, "peace, be still" may not mean much in the context of mass or church anymore, but that shouldn't suggest that they have lost their meaning altogether. It's just a question of wether or not you mean the words. |

@[eyzovblu:9096] Have you ever listened to the band Mineral? They were a late 90s emo band, a lot of people branded them as a Christian band but I'm not sure that's accurate in spite of the fact that some of their songs are about issues of faith and religion. Anyway, your comment about 'it's Sunday, rejoice' made me think of a song they wrote called The Last Word Is Rejoice. You should listen to it if you haven't heard it before. It's from the album called End Serenading, it's one of my favorite albums. By the way, I do not practice religion of any kind, but I do believe in God and do consider myself a person of faith. People don't have to think the same things to be trying to get to the same place. Just saying that for my own sake really. Peace, be still. |

This song kills the game. Guys can really be stupid fuck pigs when it comes to expectations or standards for what makes women attractive. I've dated a few women that didn't take shaving their legs too seriously and I didn't give a shit, it didn't make them less attractive in my eyes. I've always thought there was sort of a fuck the world and what you think defiance to it that's kinda cool. As long as they don't have a moustache, I could care less. They take enough shit from us, I'm not gonna pile on because of a little leg hair. But I try to be a man of taste and decency so maybe that's just me, haha. |
