| Neko Case – Hold On, Hold On Lyrics | 9 years ago |

This is my favorite of Neko's songs. I can only interpret it as I feel it. The first verse is obviously about her family not understanding her, nor her feelings, and "hangin' round the ceiling half the time" - being over the top and too much for her sensitivities The second is about her trying to fit in with others, and/or finding a suitable partner, but never being able to despite people telling her to hold on, and her time will come. The third verse she has let others down because she knew they weren't right for her, and also then becoming someone who fills that blank space in someone's life until they find someone else. Now she finds it easier just to go without, and fill her emotional needs without commitment. The last verse has her leaving either a party (perhaps hen's night?) or wedding reception, where the bride obviously was unhappy with choice despite her being so in love, and there Neko repeats again, she would rather be free and unattached emotionally. Then she repeats how she is still being told to hold on, her time will come. It is her jaded views on love, and how it is never as full of sunshine, bubbles, rainbows, joy etc, as society makes it out to be. |
