@[jhager4441:19528] I don't think it's about Romeo and Juliet. you can tell from the line, "And the taste of her poison on her lips is of a tomb." It could mean all sorts of stuff, but I think it's about a toxic love where She was cheating on her lover, and maybe he doesn't know it yet. Juliet would NEVER cheat on Romeo because she's too madly in love with him, and she would go against her family's feud to be with Romeo. |

This is indeed a sad song. It's about a break up where the couple had it's ups and downs, but ultimately they just don't belong with each other, and it must come to an end. one of the lovers wished they could just share a moment to cherish the best moments of their relationships one last time before they go their separate ways. It's one of my favorite songs on HIM's Razorblade Romance album. |

As everyone here is stating, this song is an analysis of the deep depression Tuomas went through after he kicked out Tarja. It is a common theme throughout the Dark Passion Play album (Bye Bye Beautiful, Master Passion Greed, etc.) but The Poet and the Pendulum is where he goes all out! At the beginning, "The End" resembles The End of the Tarja Era where he gives Tarja the letter that ultimately dismisses her, and he goes through a lot of mental pain. He knew he has to do it eventually and it has to be done, but it was still such a blow when it does happen. The two built such a chemistry over the years, some might say Tuomas actually grew some feelings for Tarja, but she married Marcelo, in which Marcelo was like, "She's mine now, and there's nothing you can do about it!" Things began falling apart, and it lead to the decision to let her go. Afterwards, Tuomas tries figuring out new ideas, but his stuff sounds the same thing. He hates this pain and what he's going through, and he just wants to be a child again, times when things were simpler and where he was the most happy. he reflects his childhood innocence, stuff that he may never get back again. Marco's part is where he feels his childhood innocence was gutted and ripped from him, "Cut in half - Infanticide"
a time period of what I think is his darkest hour. "1000 pages of erased text" is where he destroyed his entire work from that point on, and starts on a fresh new start. The next two verses before the song ultimately ends is a time where Tuomas visits his parents for comfort during this difficult time, and his mother gives him comfort by telling him, "no matter what happens, I will always love you." with this he does feel better and he puts stuff in the past, and start a new era "The Beginning." Stuff like this is why Tuomas is such a genius because anyone can relate these songs and can help those who are going through tough stuff in their lives. some of these other people can probably give you a better analysis, but I just want to try to give it a summary. Hope this helps! |

I think this is my favorite Nightwish song. I think the song deals with depression. I think it's about a person who lived through his whole life being corrupted and everyone giving him ill thoughts. He commits suicide through depression, and just now people began to feel sorry for him. I think the message is that if you know someone who is going through some tough shit in their lives, help them, comfort them, listen to them, and do whatever you can to make them feel better because the last time you frown down upon them, you might drive them to a path of no return. It may not be what Tuomas had in mind while writing this song, but that's what I got out of it. |

I'm gonna do my best to try to imply it to the Imaginaerum movie. In the movie, this song is played during an important scene where the daughter of the writer who's in his deathbed, finds out that she was wrong about her father, and her father actually DID care for his daughter. I think the swan represents the daughter in the film. In his final hours, he just wanted the love of his daughter by his side, and caring for him, But she couldn't because she thought her whole life she was nothing to him (but needed nothing she could give). When his daughter finally found out his truth, she can finally give her love his father truly needed. Tuomas is a GENIUS song writer, and his meanings can truly touch people. |

As many songs from HIM, the song is a twisted love song, and this song is so complex. It's about a dangerous lust when a male kisses a innocent, beautiful girl. The male kissed this girl, and he becomes madly in love with her. As a matter of fact, he goes insane because of her and that kiss, but she becomes afraid of him, and the two start to split apart by his lust for her (while we grew apart like never before) He drastically thinks he is perfect for her, so he is willing to go to extreme lengths to be with her again, even if it leads to heinous acts and ultimately... death. |
