I've always percieved this song as one of those situations where, for example, a girl and boy are best friends, and one has fallen for the other (in this case it was the boy who fell for the girl). Now, I know that's not the way this story was supposed to be defined as, but this is the way I've known it. The lyric, "What am I supposed to say when I'm all choked up, but you're okay?" makes me think the guy never told her and doesn't want her to know, so when people ask him why he's so down whenever the girl's new boyfriend is around, he doesn't exactly know what to tell them without spilling his thoughts. Also, when it says, "While I'm wide awake, she has no trouble sleeping" It's like him staying up all night thinking about her and being ashamed of liking her because he knows she'll never like him like that-- and she has no trouble sleeping because she doesn't know he likes her. |

I think it's actually about a one-sided relationship. Like person A likes person B, but person B doesn't like person A. "Face stained in the ceiling Why does it keep saying, I don't have to see you right now" Maybe a long-distance relationship where person A is like "we need to see each other" but person B isn't that interested, like "nah i'm fine here." and person A feels like shit after that and while they're in bed or something and staring at the ceiling, where that moment plays in their mind over and over again, because persom B's exact words were "I don't have to see you right now" And the "Digging like you can bury Something that cannot die We could wash the dirt off our hands now Keep it from living underground" Saying that person B is kinda just sweeping person A's love for them under the rug like it's lifeless, and then both of them shaking it off like it's just "whatever", trying to keep it from going on, kinda. The "Lazy summer goddess/I don't have to see you right now" lyric, though, I think is person A talking to person B, finally saying "I don't have to take this" and standing up for themself. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but it's how I've been interpreting it. |

| Mumford & Sons – I Will Wait Lyrics | 9 years ago |

I believe this song is about a relationship in which the submissive one doesn't want to have sex (yet), and waiting for the other. "Well I came home Like a stone And I fell heavy into your arms Those days of dust in which we've known Will blow away with this new sun" I think that verse is talking about how he came home one day after a hard day of working. The couple just ignored the past day and had a nice evening. "But I'll kneel down Wait for now And I'll kneel down Know my ground" Again, about waiting for the other to be ready. He is kneeling down, as if telling himself "no" and almost bowing to her as if she were royalty, "knowing his ground" meaning he knows her boundaries and where he must remain outside of them. The "I will wait" chorus is self-explanitory in this theory. "So break my step and relent You forgave, and I won't forget" I believe, here, he went a little to far into intimacy than she wanted. He "broke his step" immediately after realizing. The girl forgave him, much to his delight and he will never forget that day, like promising to think more. "Know what we've seen And him with less, Now in some way shake the excess" I'm not quite sure about this lyric, though it might be about how he accidentally went over her boundaries, leaving him "less" of a man. And somehow the girl "shook the excess" and nevertheless forgave him. "Now I'll be bold, as well as strong And use my head along side my heart" This one seems self-explanatory. He doesn't want to hurt her so he blocks every bad thought from his mind, using his mental strength along with the love in his heart. "So take my flesh and fix my eyes." He's letting her gain dominance over his actions, asking her to fix the way he used to look at her (sexual rather than breautiful) "A tethered mind, free from the lies" His mind is free from the "lies" of society saying it's up to the men to decide whether or not to have sex regardless of how ready their partner is. "Raise my hands Paint my spirit gold And bow my head Keep my heart slow" He is praying for his soul to be cleansed, in a sense, to be transformed into a pure human being so he can bow his head but not in shame, bow his head in respect. Keeping his heart slow meaning keeping his actions slow. |

| The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics | 9 years ago |

I think this is about someone who likes another person that's in a relationship. Let's give them names, I guess, so it's easier to understand. "Jared" is in love with "Lola", and "Lola" has a boyfriend named "Nick". "Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine" I think this is about "Jared" escaping happiness, which I will explain a little more with the next lyric. "Gotta gotta be down Because I want it all" ^^"Jared"'s 'gotta be down' because he knows he wants someone that he sadly can't have (Lola). And wanting her makes him feel as if he wants everything in the world, when in his case, it's not. "It started out with a kiss How did it end up like this? It was only a kiss It was only a kiss" "Jared" is at his own house, but he knows "Lola" is probably having sex with "Nick". "Now I'm falling asleep And she's calling a cab While he's havin' a smoke And she's takin' a drag" "Jared" is about to sleep but he can't stop imagining things like "Lola" leaving the house from a 'night of fun' with "Nick". "Now they're goin' to bed And my stomach is sick And it's all in my head But she's touching his chest now He takes off her dress now Let me go" Again, "Jared" can't stop imagining but his mind is going further and further into Hell and making him feel sick. "I just can't look It's killing me And taking control..." ^ "Jealousy Turning saints into the sea Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your allibis" "Jared" is now intensely jealous of "Nick". He also has to get through many things and he feels as if he's turning saints into the sea for her, swimming through more and more shit to stay somewhat close to her, feeling suffocated because their friends don't approve. "But it's just the price I pay Destiny is calling me" He's saying that doing all of that is worth it just for the fact of knowing she lived; knowing she existed; being in her life, even if it wasn't for long. "Open up my eager eyes Cos I'm Mr. Brightside" "Jared" is saying he has to open up his fuckin eyes for once (metophoracally) and take a chance because he's known for being fairly optimistic throughout his life. Blah blah blah verse 1 blah chorus blah "I never" -said what I wanted to. "Jared" never got to ask Lola out or make a move because maybe she and Nick got married before he could. |

@[originuk:16931] I like this theory specifically, but I think it's about one person being insecure while the other is outgoing in a relationship. I noticed something about the music video; Gary is laying in very...dangerous places. Alone. While singing the chorus. Indicating he's talking to someone, trying to convince them to trust him. But the person is insecure, so they don't like it. However, at the end of the video, he's laying on a bed. Now, I'm not saying he's trying to convince the person to have sex with him; no. I'm simply stating the fact that the insecure one is too scared to show their love for the man. Too scared to show any emotion. |

Honestly, I don't think this is him talking to a "hypothetical son". Here's my complete interpretation of the whole "the son isn't real" theory. "Now most of the time we'd have too much to drink We'd laugh at the stars and we'd share everything Too young to notice and too dumb to care But, love was a story that couldnt compare" The lyric "too young to notice and too dumb to care" may be referring to the fact that they possibly had unprotected sex. Months later when they're just, maybe a week before having the baby, he proposes to her. But then she turns him down but only because she was dying and tells him just that... I believe she died either days/weeks after birth, or during birth...and he was too afraid to tell his son about the girl until later when he was about nine to ten, which is usually when guys start to have crushes and are capable of handling death. This is when he tells the son who his mother is and how they met...being hurt traumatized him, and now he doesn't want that for his son, so he tells him never to fall in love because he'll get hurt. |

| Eminem – Mockingbird Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| All these people saying the last two lines; "And if that mockingbird don't sing, and that ring don't shine, I'ma break that birdies neck. I'll go back to the jeweler who sold it to ya', I'ma make him eat every carat. Don't fuck with dad." ruined the song. To be honest, those are two of my favorite lines from any song Eminem's done... Maybe get used to the fact that Eminem has an amazingly fucked up mind? Heh, maybe that's why I love him so much.. | |

| @[chemicalnirvana495:9218] holy fuck this is a really late reply but in case you haven't figured it out yet, it's "well, my gun shoots" it's not "the seven different shades of shit". It's saying "Well, my gun shoots seven different shades of shit. So what's your favorite colour, punk?!" | |

I agree with MashedPE. My breakdown::: "I know what you think in the morning when the sun shines on the ground and shows (oh-) what you have done it shows where your mind has gone" To me, this is like saying "I know that you cut last night and now, in the morning, you're thinking about suicide. Or your excuse to your parents..." "And you swear to your parents that it will never happen again..." Meaning your parents found out that you cut and that you lied, and so you swear you'll never do it again. "I know I know what that means..." Meaning "I know you lied even then. I know you're going to do it again." "I know... That you all have guns. And you never put the safety on. And you all have plans to take it Don't take it Don't take it" Meaning (to the suicidal people who are listening) "I know that you all want to commit suicide, and you always have an open mind to it... And that you all have plans to take your lives. Don't take your lives." "I'm trying I'm trying to sleep I'm trying I'm trying to sleep But I can't But I can't when you all have guns for hands" This is more the narrator speaking. Like he can't sleep knowing all these people could commit suicide at any moment. "Let's take this a second at a time Let's take this one song, this one rhyme Together, let's breathe Together, to the beat But there's hope out the window So that's where we'll go Let's go outside and all join hands" Still from the narrator, "lets come together, join hands, and share our stories and understand each other and help each other become happy." the 'hope out the window' going to the 'let's go outside' part; "let's go outside and be happy together." "But until then you'll never understand" (Narrator) "until we all join you'll never understand what's wrong with us." "We've turned our hands to guns, trade in our thumbs for ammunition I must forewarn you, of my disorder, or my condition 'Cause when the sun sets, it upsets what's left of my invested interest Interested in putting my fingers to my head" As MashedPE said, it's like informing the non-depressed people and the people who don't understand depression of what it's actually like to be depressed. The first and last line to this verse is like saying "we've given everything just to get guns to kill ourselves" to me. "The solution is, I see a whole room of these mutant kids Fused at the wrist, I simply tell them they should shoot at this Simply suggest my chest and this confused music, it's Obviously best for them to turn their guns to a fist" I believe the narrator is Tyler now, at a concert, saying he sees a whole venue of people who've been depressed, self harmed, etc... He wants them to, instead of their selves, "shoot him" or rock out with the music and just be happy. This goes back to the whole "lets join hands" segment. Like saying "We can all join hands together at this concert and be happy to feel alive."... The ending phrase, "obviously best for them to turn their guns to a fist" like saying, once again, "instead of committing suicide, rock out to the music with your fists in the air." This is just my opinion/interpretation. I'm not saying this is correct, but more what I believe. |
