The song is very self explanatory in itself, but I can tell a bit more, as told by Ben on his website. The song follows William Northcote, singing about his parents meeting, falling in love and then giving birth to him while his mother dies in childbirth. William has an older sister named Victoria, who looks after him during their father's depression and destruction, and later his suicide. William is a lot like his father, very hot-headed and emotional. He was likable and charming, but unpredictable. These traits are passed on to his own children, as shown in later songs (Names / A Pound of Flesh) Victoria, far too intelligent and peculiar for a woman of her time, was met with suspicion by those around her. She was quiet, pensive and unflappable. Many thought of her as a witch, or someone not entirely of our world. They were correct. Her bloodline is full of fantastic and seemingly impossible traits. [FIRST PART "Judah"] Judah Northcote is on his way home after murdering a man. This man mocked his family and stepped on his pride, and Judah swore publicly that he’d set the record straight. Judah didn’t intend to kill him, but his temper got the best of him. Judah is now on the run from the murdered man’s family. [SECOND PART "William"] William, Judah's father, sings about warning his son not to keep running, that everyone messes up and he'll always wait for his son to come back home. [LAST PART "Judah"] Judah has decided to come home at last, back to his waiting family. |
