I think the song is quite likely about the bands inability to break in to the music scene in Germany and Japan, which are well known for loving different types of American music. The fundamental problems and "this is still new to me, I wouldn't understand" was most likely based on some things their management had said about it. So he writes a song to Germany and Japan, in order to get in the market.

I believe that going to "Leroy's double-barrel sun" refers to going to a local restaurant called Leroy's Chicken Waffles and Check cashing in Chandler, AZ which is connected to the southeast side of Tempe, AZ where the pups reside. The double-barrel sun part, I believe refers to doing a double dose of "Orange Sunshine" LSD, which came in a tiny 1/8 x 1/4 inch "barrel" which resembled a tin can. This is pretty much speculation, considering about 10 minutes of research. I found that Leroy's is the only internet listed restaurant near Tempe with this name, also a Google search for double-barrel sun was auto-completed to include "shine" after sun, directing me to a message board with people talking about doing barrels of orange sunshine (and often taking double doses.) So, apparently going to eat chicken and waffles while tripping is a thing to do. Kind of explains why he saw fatboy in a devil rabbit costume to me a bit, also... Knowledge overcome seems to refer to having a belief in something that overcomes the knowledge of factual things. |
