| This is obviously about how culture has become a commodity and status marker rather than a signifier for something unique. It doesn't tell you to be yourself but rather that we tend to fool ourselves that we're so unique when we in fact are just one of many. The song is saying that you should stop trying so hard and learn to live instead of obsessing over being original. You can't buy a identity. You try to be so different as does everybody else. It means that our efforts to be different is just a another way to be like everybody else. | |
