| "hlp is one of those weird songs where i kind of jump between mostly personal experience, what i see around me, maybe the experience of a friend, etc. all of the influences and experiences blur. it was originally about someone close to me who was depressed, then i found myself writing autobiographically, and then when i was finishing the song in LA it was about what i was seeing all around me. that line (cocaine, dollar bills) was written in that last part of the process" | |
