This song is simple. It is about his “girlfriend” being unfaithful. He knows “the mask I found” is when she’s acting faithful and kind…and when the “dogs” find her she’s not - she goes home with the other dudes - and she has time to wait for tomorrow - to find that nice girl mask again. That’s why it’s “where are you going for tomorrow with that mask I found” - and so much depends on the weather being whether or not she randomly did it again.

It’s about a thought battle between God and man. (Which we obviously can’t win - but the “need” that was created is powerful). Worth engaging about. U2 are talking about the struggle between God and man. Were one but were not the same. We hurt each other and now we’re doing it again. Do the same with every pair of lines in song. It’s back and forth. Same thing we have is to carry each other. God gave us this life. And we have to give back…and it’s not easy or simple

Simple song.
He has an unfaithful girlfriend. and he knows.
The ”mask I found“ is her faithful persona.
The reality is she’s sometimes looking for the “dogs” to find her. ”dogs” being the random dudes she sometimes goes home with.
When she does she ”has time” to wait for tomorrow to put the mask back on, and act like she’s the Faithful girlfriend again.
Hence “where are you going with the mask I found?”
“So much depends on the weather” is because it’s random for the fickle girl.
Some nights she’s faithful, some nights she’s looking for the “dogs to find her”
So “is it raining in your bedroom” means did one of the “dogs” find you tonight ?

I don’t like to be the guy that says I know what someone else was thinking, but I think I get this song.
Scott said it first started with a news story, but it then evolved into his story about a bad relationship, so forget the news story rape scene stuff, “dogs” and all. The “dogs” aren’t literal.
The key to getting it is to look at the main object he refers to again, and again, and again, in the song. Where are YOU going…and where are you going with THE MASK I FOUND...
He’s writing about a bad relationship with someone he was infatuated with / dating that went home with other guys, and he knew it, even though she liked to act like she wanted to have a “real relationship” with him. That persona that acted like she was the beautiful woman ready for the relationship is “THE MASK I FOUND.”
So when he repeats, again and again, WHERE ARE YOU GOING FOR (TO) TOMORROW? WHERE ARE YOU GOING WITH THAT MASK I FOUND?” he’s referring to how he can’t get why she’s doing what she’s doing. Not thinking about tomorrow with him…”THAT MASK I FOUND” being her fake virtuous personality that wants a relationship with him.
When he says “When the dogs begin to smell her…Will she smell alone?” he’s talking about the guys hitting on her that she may end up going home with…and will she do it?
And when he says, “So much depends on the weather,” he means that it’s all so unpredictable…whether she goes home with one of them or comes to him….”So is it raining in your bedroom” is a not so subtle dig saying….are you doing it again?
The point of the recurring line in the song being, “when the dogs do find her…got time to WAIT FOR TOMORROW…TO FIND IT…TO FIND IT…TO FIND IT” with “IT” being that “MASK I FOUND” ….that “good girl persona” that has time to “WAIT FOR TOMORROW”…meaning when she finds that tonight guy, she can go home with him and wait till tomorrow to deal with it…”TO FIND IT”…to wait till tomorrow to be that “nice girl” again. To find that MASK again….
I’d bet that it’s the same girl he’s talking about in Big Empty…but that’s a much more complicated song…as I think he wrote it from two perspectives of the girl at the same time…when he first met her…and then when he had to later deal with it…
