I definitely think this song is about having big dreams. Ones that may be unrealistic or unattainable. Or ones that are thought of as something that "would be nice...if only..." And asking us "Why do we build castles in the sky? Oh tell me why are the castles way up high?" seems to me like its asking us: Why do we dream big and not reach out for our goals, or why do we yearn for something that we may never be able to have. Or also could be: Why do we keep our dreams "in the sky" instead of building the foundation under to make it possible? And why must they be in the sky and not create a better reality? I see these things because I am a person who builds lots of castles high up in the sky...but maybe the writer wants us to see in it whatever relates to us. Like an ink blot painting? Lol |
