Morrissey – Dear God, Please Help Me Lyrics 10 years ago
When I listen to this song, I imagine a young priest... He's walking through Rome (the Vatican?) and he's like tormented by lust and desire, which go against his faith and rules. He prays God to help him in those moments of temptation...and he's praying even while it seems he DOES give in and seems he's having a sexual approach.
The end sounds like: I know I've probably lost God's protection and I cannot depend on Him anymore (I even haven't got a place to go anymore!), 'cause of my sins...BUT now my heart feel free... Free to love, free to feel loved, and to make love.

The Smiths – Hand in Glove Lyrics 10 years ago
Great debut song. Well, I must say I don't agree with the comments below, and that's for the fact I have a very personal interpretation of this song. I think that it's all just a "daydream": it mostly happens to shy people, to create beautiful love stories in their head, just simply meeting a person by chance, e.g. on a bus. Those daydreams are sometimes very rich in details, and what's more interesting - the shy one is a courageous hero, who'll protect his/her "little charmer" ("If they dare....I'll fight to the last breath").
Actually, the song seems to concern a real relationship....until the last verses "But I know my luck too well..... I'll probably never see you again": it's like a sudden waking-up from the daydream...maybe because the "loved" person got off the bus :)
