Pondering deeply within the songs words, seems like he's talking about "trying to be someone else, but nothing seems to change I know now, this is who I really am inside" So he tried to change himself, but even that didn't work. "All I wanted was you" she's all that he wanted "What if I fell to the floor, couldn't take this anymore, what would you do? What if I wanted to fight, beg for the rest of my life, what would you do?" Basically he just wants to know that she'll be there for him. The screaming means that he wants her but he might as well be buried because no matter how much she tries to change him, he can't change himself, all he wants is her, but it doesn't seem like it's working out for them two. If he changes, it's like killing his personality, his being. I totally can relate right now, back in high school I loved the sound, but now at age 25, I can relate. Still a beautiful song. |

I think this song talks about a girl who is sad. She is scared to be in a meaningful relationship with someone who cares and loves her, so she has sex with The Weeknd, knowing that he doesn't love her, but because he's always there, even if it's just temporarily for the sex, it temporarily makes her feel cared about, but afterwards, the reality is he's not in love with her. "I'm not trying to hurt you but you live for the pain, I'm not trying to say it but it's what you became. You want me to fix you but it's never enough, that's why you always call me cause you're scared to be loved" |

To me, it's about a struggling relationship. It's that type of love that had problems and hardships but tries to continue loving each other and staying together throughout it all. The good, the bad, ALL. It burns when there's problems, it makes you want to cry, but you gotta get up, and still try. 'Ever worry that it might be ruined' Meaning, you worry that you might break, and it makes you want to cry thinking about it. That's one struggle. 'When you're out there doing what you're doing' You go on about your day without him/her and you think about him or her. 'Or are you just getting by' Getting by, as in are you ok without him, her, but barely being ok. You're still dying to be with them, knowing that there's struggles in the relationship, but you're somehow getting by. In the end, you love this person so much, that you're willing to be strong together through ANYTHING, because no one will do but said person. That's my interpretation. |
