Elliott Smith is ashamed that they have to look after themselves and he though that the other person in the relationship would help her/ him. Because that's what Elliott would have done "well i pictured somebody else" =thought they were somebody who would help "someone who looks like what i look like" =somebody that would have done what I would have done. "would you say that the one of your dreams got in you and ripped up the seams that's what id say that's what id say" =The person of their dreams (their lover) has torn them apart and is bad for them. "its already half past and it wont last" =The relationship won't last "he was a sucker for your double dose motherfucker turned white as a ghost don't you say hi don't you say hi with a broken sink for a face and a head that just takes up space hes not half right hes not half right" =The other person is using them like a drug, Elliott is encouraging the victim in the relationship to not talk to the abuser "don't you say hi". "with a broken sink for a face" means they are ugly. "and a head that just takes up space" means that the other person clearly isn't even thinking and is just empty minded and mean in this context. Then Elliott Smith says "it's not half right" referring to this relationship and how awful and wrong it is. "i was sticking up for my friend well its nothing much to defend its a lost fight its a lost fight" =Elliott is trying to help the person by defending them, but they realize that the person is broken beyond fixing or that Elliott just cant get through to them. This song keeps bringing up '2'. Example: would you say that the one of your dreams got in you and ripped up the seams thats what id say thats what id say There's a rhyme (2 lines) (pair 1) then a part that repeats 2 times (pair 2). The lyrics shown here also talks about ripping up the seams; this brings to mind something (singular) being torn in 2. This idea of things being cut in half and the number '2' keeps appearing in this song in different ways. From this I think the song is about a relationship ending, 'us' turning into 'you' AND 'me'. |

| @[no_name_no1:9082] the EXACT same here. I associate such strong emotional moments of my life with this music, it speaks to me and I get it. I wouldn't like people singing the words and not knowing what they mean, that his image is contorted and his lyrics misshapen and not appreciated or understood.
