It's quite simple. It's just about being emotionally involved and attracted to a supposed member of the opposite sex whose gender however is in question, then finsng out for sure that someone you've developed feelings for is a tranny, and though that's not your thing and you've never done that before, you go through with having sexual relations with the said tranny anyway if only because the attraction and emotional tie is at this juncture is too deep to deny and on scope makes the issue of sexual orientation miniscule . Still you don't want anybody to know because in your mind this is as dark as secrets get, hence your caitioning the tranny "whatever you do... don't tell anyone"... It's all there in the lyrics, so glaringly obvious I won't even bother pointing out the clues. Just really read it in light of what I've said and surely you'd be hard pressed to disagree. |

I just thought it was about drugs. Actually I could only ever come to the conclusion that almost the entire self-titled LP was about Paul's stuggle against compulsion. Sure, relationships are also a common theme throughout, but I think compulsive behavior, particularly toward indulgence, is even more so. Admittedly I am prone to read drug references into a lot of their lyrics as Paul's imagery, metaphors and vocabulary always seem to covey the plights of a person with a drug problem. Still, I'm surprised no one else makes this correlation. Let's not forget, it was after Interpol finished touring for OLTA that Paul has stated in several interviews he planned to seriously to put the breaks on his excessive lifestyle. He even got an apartment in Jersey to distance himself from the scene and clear his head. To further underscore the correlation, we should also note that Rest My Chemistry, if my thoery is valid at all, prefaces the overall theme of self-titled. Does anybody else see this at all |
