Primal Scream – Higher Than the Sun (A Dub Symphony in Two Parts) Lyrics 7 years ago
It was written about 1990 when Acid House and raves had really taken off in UK. Everyone between 17 and 25 was off their tits on E and acid. The music was incredible, Indie bands like PS were getting produced by club DJ's. I was 20 and got 'Higher than the Sun' tattooed across my back. 48 now - still love it!

Pixies – Hey Lyrics 7 years ago
I think it's about two people growing cold with each other but don't want to be apart. It comes across from the mans point of view that he is sexually frustrated with the situation. He feels they are chained to each other but no longer in love

Suede – Stay Together Lyrics 7 years ago
I was 23 and living in a tower block with my girlfriend in a shitty part of London. Both of us doing far too many drugs at the time. Not surprisingly we loved this song.

Happy Mondays – Bob's Yer Uncle Lyrics 7 years ago
@[The:24685] Dog That Ate... 'and Bob's yer Uncle' is British slang for 'and then it was ok'. Like 'I tried the other key and Bob's yer Uncle'. Cockneys sometimes say 'and Bob's yer mothers brother'

Curve – Cherry Lyrics 7 years ago
This song just washes over you. Beautiful. I could never make out all the lyrics so great to see them. I'd go to bed after a big night and play this.

Morrissey – Spent the Day in Bed Lyrics 7 years ago
Morrissey has encouraged taking a day off work before in Still ill.I like what he says about the news. In the west we think the news is unbiased but it's not. We get told what the people in power want us to hear. Stop watching the news.

The Smiths – Asleep Lyrics 7 years ago
This is the only song that's ever made me cry. Was having a rough time at 17 but wasn't the crying type. Turned the lights off and put this on and tears flowed. Haven't cried since. Have tried sometimes but no tears and 47 now. Shows how powerful music can be. Beautiful song.

The Charlatans (UK) – My Beautiful Friend Lyrics 7 years ago
I think it's about Rob Collins, their original keyboard player who died in a car crash. It seems to me a song about the love men can have for each other as friends. The words suggest he feels helpless to stop his friend from destroying himself. Reminds me of a mate I lost to alcoholism.

The Verve – Make It 'Til Monday Lyrics 8 years ago
I'm pretty sure it's about LSD. I remember talking with friends on it and they'd slip into a temporary psychosis. Suddenly they made no sense at all and had lost all sense of where they were or what was going on. It was scary to see especially if you were trying to keep it together yourself. Once my girlfriend who I was living with had a bad one and she said she didn't know her name or who I was but she felt safe with me. I held on to her for six hours til she came out of it. So I think it's that. Seeing a mate suddenly go under and thinking they should leave and call it a night and hope they're better by Monday.

Oasis – Live Forever Lyrics 8 years ago
I remember seeing Noel interviewed on tv back when this was released. He said people were getting it wrong thinking it was a usual love song. He said it was a love song but to his mum. He then said 'that one was for you mum, we're gonna live forever!' Always stuck in my mind because then it made more sense.
'Lately, I don't really want to know, how your garden grows, cos I just wanna fly' sums up exactly how adolescent lads feel as they drift apart from their mums and want to go out having it and making the most of the world around them.
I think the sad chord change at the end is because he knows his mum isn't going to live forever. Beautiful song.

Hi admeans, you can check out the original World of Twist version from early nineties here:

Worth a listen. Oasis were gonna call themselves Sons of the Stage because of this original. Bit more psychedelic.

It's about rushing on MDMA. Back in the early nineties you'd say someone's eyes were blown if they had massive pupils. Your pupils go huge when on E. No offence to people who hate drugs, but that is what its about. Tony Ogden from World of Twist died young so there's the lesson I guess. I think Liam's version kicks arse , he did it justice and made it his own.

Oasis – Morning Glory Lyrics 8 years ago
@[LivieP:23818] Hi, the mirror and razor blade are exactly as they are. Before you snort coke you have to chop it up to make it more powdery and then form it into a line. You need a smooth hard surface and something with an edge like a bank card or knife. A mirror and razor blade are pretty ideal tools for a cokehead. Like your take on the song though. Reckon you do know what the fuck you're talking about. Cheers

Also, 'todays the day that all the world will see' is the arrogance you feel when on cocaine. 'Walking to the sound of my favourite tune, tomorrow never knows..' Tomorrow Never Knows is one of Noels favourite Beatles songs. He did a track with the Chemical Brothers called Let Forever Be which borrowed heavily from it.

It's 100% about cocaine addiction. All your dreams are made when you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade is being ironic about how fake the buzz is. Morning glory is an English term for waking up with an erection. Cocaine can raise the libido and act a bit like viagra. Cocaine totally tires you out when you stop taking it. He sounds tired throughout the song - need a little time to wake up. Yup, the joys of coke. At the time he wrote this Noel was a coke addict by his own admission. Great song

Oasis – Round Are Way Lyrics 10 years ago
I'm the same age as the Gallagher's and grew up working class in England. I get the little nuances Noel was talking about. Basically, the songs about how great it was growing up and being a teenager in the eighties/early nineties despite having no money..

'Ernie bangs the sound and the day begins'

Ernie is a slang term for a milkman - because of Benny Hills song from the seventies (he drove the fastest milk float in the West)

'The letterbox is open and your cash falls in
I'll meet you at the office
Just before the staff clock in'

Back then, your unemployment benefit would be posted to you in the form of a giro cheque which you could only cash at the post 'office'.

I spent most of my teens playing 20 a side football in the park - jumpers for goalposts!

Girls are minging is a cheeky joke at the local girls. Meams 'dirty' or 'rough'.

At the end of the song the milkmans come round again but they've all been unconscious mashed up on hash or whatever since half past four.

The whole song is an appreciation of where they live and a sense of belonging.

'The birds sing for ya, cos they already know yer.'

Englands flippin brilliant!
