Mariah Carey – Hero Lyrics 6 years ago
This song is definitely about inner strength, but more than that. It's about being enough — that everything that we seek already lays inside of us. It's also about not seeking to be saved by others (ie: being saved by a man in a relationship, which women are socially and culturally encouraged to seek). That I am my own hero, I am enough and don't need saving.

Billy Joel – She's Got A Way Lyrics 7 years ago
This is what a man feels when he is in love, for any women out there that wants to understand men!

It's a song that proves that men can feel love deeply and intensely, a deeper love than some women can go.

I wish I could meet the woman he sings about. She must be so loving, caring, and wonderful.

Feels like Justin found someone that he loves so much that he's willing to wait and take it slow, because he cares about this person.

Fleetwood Mac – You Make Loving Fun Lyrics 7 years ago
Feels like a man who is in love with a woman — it's the beginning of a new relationship, where everything is fun, happy. He's in a state of bliss, and he wants to ride it out as long as possible (please don't bring the spell), before the real work of a relationship begins...

Alanis Morissette – Not The Doctor Lyrics 7 years ago
I interpret this song as a strong woman who wants to be in a relationship with a whole person. 1+1 = 2. She wants to feel whole in a relationship, she's seeking another whole person to partner with...

This means a partner that has resolved their past hurts (mostly! nobody is perfect), that knows themselves well and loves themselves (their flaws and all), they are independent and self-sufficient (emotionally, financially). These types of people dont need somebody to take care of them, they don't need a therapist, they don't need too much! They are mostly happy and whole.

Alicia Keys – Fallin' Lyrics 7 years ago
To me this song is about a challenging relationship, where her man does some things right and some things bad. When it's bad, it hurts her and she loses her love for him. When he does her right, she falls back in love. It's a constant roller coaster of emotions.

I have felt this way before when dating ambitious / masculine men. They can be amazing to be with because they are so inspiring, protective, providing — but at the same time, selfish and inconsiderate in the pursuit of their purpose and accustomed being treated special, so it's hard for them to step out of themselves into the give/take of a healthy relationship.

Alicia Keys – A Woman's Worth Lyrics 7 years ago
She is saying that a woman that values herself will only stay with a man that makes her feel cherished and treats her well. So be good to your woman and tell her every day how much you love her, and you will never lose her.

Madonna – Borderline Lyrics 7 years ago
It's about a man who is driving a woman CRAZY! Easy as that.

When a woman surrenders herself to a man (emotionally, sexually), and he takes it for granted, it will drive a woman NUTS. She will become needy, emotional, angry, a wreck! I've been there, it's a sad and powerless state that I never want to return to. Take care of yourselves ladies and always keep one foot on the ground.

Alicia Keys – Girl On Fire Lyrics 7 years ago
From Alicia Keys herself:

"Dear Fam,I’m so honored to share my fifth studio album, Girl On Fire, with all of you. WOW!!! What a journey!! Over the last two years, I’ve given my all to the songs and sounds that make up this album— I took myself out of my “comfort zone”, collaborated with artists across different genres, and took control of my life in a way I never had before. And with every step I took, you all inspired me to pour my heart into every beat, and my soul into every lyric.Girl On Fire is about new beginnings, new perspectives and fresh starts. It’s about finding your own inner strength and channeling it in a way you’ve never tried before. To be “on fire” is to allow yourself the freedom to take full control of who you are and how you want to live your life. To live your passion and shine your light unabashedly!! It’s that moment you choose to claim your power and be extraordinary! With this album, I hope to empower you in the way you have me… I hope to move you to be your own phenomenal self in life. Madonna – Express Yourself Lyrics 7 years ago
I started dating again and fell in love with this song in a whole new way. It's so empowering!!

This song to me is about letting a man prove his devotion and love for you, and WALKING if he isn't showing you the signs.

That means he calls when he says he will. He asks you out, and reserves his weekends for you. He supports you when you need his support. He'll listen to you. He'll kiss you like he means it. He'll make love to you unselfishly. He'll tell you he loves you, he'll never leave you guessing. That's when you know he loves you. Anything other than that is just pussy footing and you don't have TIME for that.

Ladies, sit back and relax. Let the man do the work. Let your man prove his devotion to you. You don't need to text him, or call him, or ask him out, or do anything. If a man loves a woman, he'll do all of that. In the meantime, go be your awesome self and get busy with achieving your goals. Work hard. Get a makeover and pamper yourself, take good care of your beautiful body. The right guy won't hesitate to win you over.

Justin Bieber – Company Lyrics 7 years ago
A simple song asking whether two people can keep each other company in a relationship. After the infatuation subsides and the game is over, will you be able to just "be" together?

It's one of the most important tests of compatibility, because eventually we all lose our youth and charms. All that will remain is the essence of the other person.

Fugees – Killing Me Softly Lyrics 7 years ago
To me, this song evokes the story of a woman who has been played by a man. Every time I hear the line "Strumming my pain with his fingers", I feel this woman's pain, as she recalls how he so smoothly came into her life and swept her off her feet. And in the end it was all a game he was playing. I can feel the sadness, passion, and later the "fuck that guy" attitude in her voice in the song.

@[JPHendrix:17817] I also interpret this song this way. It's about a man who seduces a woman with his smooth moves, but in the end it was all a game he was playing with her. She is left heart broken and slightly more cynical about love — I can feel the cynicism in Lauren's voice!

The Goo Goo Dolls – Iris Lyrics 7 years ago
It feels like at the beginning the protaganist has found a confidant or lover, who understands them better than others. The singer feels misunderstood by the world, but he also shuts the world out, alienating and disconnecting himself from others. He wants to be understood, heard, seen.

Coldplay – Fix You Lyrics 8 years ago
I sense several themes in this song. It's beautifully complex, like the layers of an onion.

Heroism: the speaker in the song claims they can fix somebody's sorrows, that they may have experienced from disappointments and failures. They want to end their stream of tears.

Suffering: The beginning of this song speaks of those who have suffered. Suffered loss, love, failure.

Restoration: The refrain has a spiritual vibe to it, talking about returning home and death. I liken it to Savasana pose in yoga (the corpse pose), where you return to the earth, allowing gravity to win (complete submission). In yoga, its a moment of deep restoration and comfort after a grueling workout, and also a sign of completion.

Disney – Reflection (Mulan) Lyrics 8 years ago
@[thefeels:9170] I can see the connection, definitely. I see it broadly as a disconnect between how someone feels inside versus their exterior expression.

Disney – Reflection (Mulan) Lyrics 8 years ago
This song is about a woman who feels a disconnection between the way she feels inside about her identity, and what she sees in the mirror. Mulan struggles to conform to the roles her family and society have boxed her into, and longs to align her exterior to what lays in her interior.

Other connections:

- To Thine Own Self Be True (Shakespeare, Hamlet)
- Know Thyself (Ancient Greek aphorism)

Buffalo Springfield – Kind Woman Lyrics 8 years ago
I connected to this song as a teenager and then as an adult. Every time it plays, I stop what I'm doing and fall into the lyrics and the song.

The reason I connect with song is on many levels, but today while cleaning out the basement I realized a big reason why: because I have yearned all my life for a kind woman in my life. I was raised by a very mean mother, with a cruel temper and narcissistic personality traits, that left a hole in my soul. This song helps mend that hole a little bit, every time I hear it.
