| Elliott Smith – No Confidence Man Lyrics | 10 years ago |

To me this song is about protituion. (Charlie got a band in his hand A rubber loop) I roll of money. ([Charlie] Says, I'm the man you really want So just act natural) (Don't try to tell me your bullshit scheme Because I have no idea what you mean No idea I'm just trying to sleep I've heard quite enough Just to listen is really tough) I take as the prostitute speaking, says they're just doing it to pay rent. (Because you're on it all the time) Some sort of drug-use. Usually goes hand in hand with prostitution. (Hearing the bells, it's 9 a.m. You better wake up your friend Before he won't wake up anymore) I think its the prostitutes roomate, or whoever else is there, talking about making sure Charlie isnt overdosing. (Because I got to split, I'm late to leave He gave me nothing but grief And some bullshit story only I would believe) Prostitute waking up realising they have to get to their part time job? trying to wake up Charlie, but hes trying to convince them to stay. |

Literal interpretation I have is: Drug dealer wants to turn him into a dealer and his payment would be drugs (just want to live with her again). (I didn't want to go inside It's a burned out party It's killing my pride) gives me the vision of a flop house for drug users. |

@[charcoalsketch:7784] I hear "pushing nightly" like forcing yourself to watch tv just to be doing something, anyhting. 'Pretty picture' I agree with, that would be the tv show/movie, whatever. |

| How I interpret the lyrics is just wondering what others are thinking about and knowing you'll never know. Just like no one knows what youre thinking or going through. | |
