Always a a lot of great insights here, but one I haven't seen about this song is in regards to heroin. I think its referring to slipping past a chippy ( small) habit to genuine dependency. China white being a highly refined form of the drug certainly supports all the references to Chinatown ( whether NYC or SF). As to the "hill", another place to score. " when all me dime dancing is through" seems to allude to this slippage. A dime won't do anymore, and dancing is a sort of courtship before the act of giving in to carnal desire. For addicts, junk is often referred to as a " lover". The LSD theory as well as relationships, I think are kind of a shade of the deeper meaning. |
