The dealer then teases the man, addressing a pile of spoons, which can be used for heating heroin, making fun of how precious they are to him. He further comments on the man's appearance and then tells him that he can make him smile and feel better, by getting high. The chorus is the dealer comforting the addict as he gets anxious and sees things as he gets high. He tells him that what he is seeing is not real, and that he can make them disappear, demonstrating his power over the addict. This song is about a dog the Soviets sent into space in 1957, named Laika. Laika was a stray picked up off the streets of Moscow and became one of the first animals in space through an experiment to see if organisms could survive space flight. It was assumed that she would not survive, and there were no plans to retrieve her, so it was essentially a death sentence. Only a few hours passed before she died of overheating. This song is from the perspective of Laika as she died, describing how she felt in the "little planet" that was her spaceship. She questions why her master, likely the scientists who briefly took care of her before sending her away, has betrayed her and left her alone to die, as she feels they "were friends" and had a special relationship. |
