I think this song is Danny Elfman's reaction to Stephen King's "The Shining". He and Boingo have done a couple of other songs that I think were heavily influenced by Stephen King, including "Little Guns" from King's "Battleground" and Pedestrian Wolves from "The Stand". |

I've been listening to this song for over 25 years and it just hit me what this song is really about: the Statue of Liberty: "She's actual size but seems much bigger to me" is the importance that the Statue of Liberty, as a symbol, has on the American people. "Her face hangs in portrait on the post office wall" is a reference to the Statue of Liberty postage stamps. "She's stuck in my heart now where my blood belongs" is the presence of patriotism in our blood. |
