Sounds like he's in denial about the decaying condition of some aspect of his life. Maybe a toxic relationship or an addiction. He's kind of shouting "You don't know me!" at some outside criticizer. |

The chorus comes from the Salem witch trials. This woman, Sarah Good, was standing trial and when the Reverend tried to get her to confess, she said, "I am no more a witch than you are a wizard, and if you take away my life, God will give you blood to drink." Supposedly that reverend had an internal hemorrhage 25 years later and drowned in his own blood.
I think John's kinda implicitly saying that this girl is his life and this new guy is taking that from him. It's a bitter curse he's hurling at this guy. Pretty powerful line given its historical context. |
