| Alice Cooper – It's Me Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| While this song has Christian overtones, like most of this album, I'm not sure "me" is supposed to be God. I interpret as a song from the perspective of the "nice guy" who pursued a woman who turned out to be self-destructive, he sees, partly rightly, that she would be happier in the long run with him, but she's pursuing other men " til all your money's blown" etc. | |

Older I get and more I read media accounts of child sexual abuse, the more I'm convinced that is what this song is about. Often times children are used for a time by a predator who loses interest in them when they get to a certain age. They tend to have mixed feelings of anger, misplaced affection for the predator and a sense of shame. Call you up in the middle of the night Like a firefly without a light You were there like a slow torch burning I was a key that could use a little turning Needy child looking for attention, needed a "little light" that ultimately becomes a burning torch. *So tired that I couldn't even sleep So many secrets I couldn't keep Promised myself I wouldn't weep One more promise I couldn't keep* Almost speaks for itself. *Everything is cut and dry Day and night, earth and sky Somehow I just don't believe it* It's clear at the end, on reflection, the subject still has difficulty seeing the whole experience in black and white, right/wrong even though he or she understand this at one level. Note also the recurring theme of an unspoken secret in the song i.e. "I know what no one else knows". Sad song, really. |
