I am from Battersea from a long time ago, Battersea has changed dramatically since I was a kid. The song to me, speaks about a Battersea that once was, a working class, industrial area in comparison to now, a yuppieized area, that has lost much of its original character. The first verse, with reference to the old power station, which is presently being torn down to make place for yuppie apartments.
'The power goes direct to my head' I am from Battersea! you can't tell me no better! 'The future ain't what it should've been' It should have stayed as it should, not what it is now.
'seen better times, but she always shines, Battersea' referring again back to those good old days.
'Fell in love with what looks like a flying v' sums up the passion of the Battersea people, they are so passionate, and anyone tells them different they couldn't give a flying f'''k or two fingers, a 'v' sign as they call it in Battersea.
