Fun Fact: Tom Araya is a devout christian. And no, he's not a hypocrite, he's just sending his message in a controversial yet subtle way. The thing is Jesus Christ was just a wonderful person who wanted to spread a message of peace and compassion. His message caught on, and when the romans noticed his popularity, they jumped on the bandwagon that ended up being the roman catholic church. Jesus Christ's philosophy ended up being hijacked and turned into an instrument of opression and mind control. The Jesus Christ that is bashed by Slayer in this and other songs is the bastardization that has been created by centuries of organized religion, and thus must be destroyed by what these sons of bitches cynically call "blasphemy". |

| @[donotcare:7330] EDIT: I agree with the interpretation that this song is about religion, not any religion in particular. | |

I agree with the interpretation that this song is about some religion and more specifically the messiah, as the religeous references are very evident. I would like to make emphasis on the title of the song as it really reminds us what religion really is, a mental drug to numb the pain of not understanding the awful things in life, cheif among them DEATH. HE IS THE PAINKILLER, THIS IS THE PAINKILLER |
