| Cake – Hem of Your Garment Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| I always appreciate independent thinking, but this is a reference to Bible verse. The basic idea of being "not fit to touch the hem of your garment" is not really to be ascribed an individual opinion, it literally comes from the book of Matthew, chapter 9, verses 18-22. Look it up. The song is pretty much face value, but to understand it you really have to have been in that head space. So while it's interpretative to a point, the titular verse really isn't. To truly feel nothing, and be unworthy of even touching the hem of the garment worn by one who wouldn't even turn away a leper... If you've ever felt devoid of even the slightest bit of redeeming quality, you'll get it. Which is not to say depressed, but rather lost somewhere in the mire between happiness and sadness, simply existing... Try to imagine someone who is not a sociopath, but feels as though they've lost all capacity for emotion. Well... That's my take anyway, insofar as the overarching theme. | |

When he talks about the doctor's fur being wet, along with the crow sounds, it made me think of the plague doctors from Europe (you know them if you played assassin's creed). They always wore crow masks to counter the bad smells that they thought caused the plague. I know birds have feathers and not fur, but it was the foremost imagery in my mind after hearing how he described doctors. http://www.delpiano.com/carnival/images_carnival_venezia/grev_medico1_w.jpg |
