Bright Eyes – Shell Games Lyrics 8 years ago
To me, it's really clear that this song is about Connor's musical career. And fame in general.

"Took the fireworks and the vanity
The circuit board and the city streets
Shooting star, swaying palm tree"

- refers to all his albums using the imagery of the cover art.

"But here it comes, that heavy love
I'm never going to move it alone
Here it comes, that heavy love
Tag it on a tenement wall (fans doing Bright Eyes inspired graffiti)
Here it comes, that heavy love
Someone's got to share in the load
Here it comes, that heavy love"

AND

"But here it comes, that heavy love
You're never going to move it alone
Here it comes, that heavy love
Tattooed on a criminal's arm (fans with Bright Eyes tattoos)
Here it comes, that heavy love
Someone got to share in the load
Here it comes, that heavy love
You're never going to move it alone"

- "heavy love" refers to the love his fans have for him and how much of a burden it is, to have people so revere him and think they know him.

"No, I don't want to play
It's a shell game, it's a shell game"

- this refers to fame (and Connor doesn't want it any more). Fame is a sham. People think they know you if you're famous, when really all they are doing is projecting their own shit onto you.

"Distorted sounds on oscilloscopes (recorded music?)
Distorted facts, I could never cope (fans misconstruing his words/lyrics)
My private life is an inside joke
No one will explain it to me" (everyone thinks they know him, when they don't)

"Here it comes, that heavy love
We're never going to move it alone
Here it comes, that heavy love
Playing as the cylinder rolls (music being played)
Here it comes, that heavy love
I only want to share in the load
Here it comes, that heavy love
I'm never going to move it alone"

- I really feel for Conor. He is too sensitive for fame (like Cobain, Joplin - there is a long list of famous people who expected fame to be what they wanted, but by the time they were famous, it was too late to turn back). He is an amazing poet and this talent has sadly trapped him in a lifestyle that he hates. Fans can be scary. When you suffer from mental illness and/or addictions and you find a musician who seems to be singing about your life, it's very easy to become obsessed.
I have seen him live and though he was amazing, it was so obvious he was just going through the motions. It's so sad...

Amanda Palmer – The Point of It All Lyrics 10 years ago
This song could be written about me. I have severe mental issues and am highly creative. To stay alive I have to take meds that turn me into a zombie. To be uniquely creative, I have to be off my meds. I spend a lot of time staring at walls wishing I could create. I have friends but they have mostly given up on trying to get me to go out.... That which I live for is not enough to keep me alive. That which keeps me alive (drugs) stops me from doing what I live for....
