| XTC – I Bought Myself A Liarbird Lyrics

Written by Andy Partridge about XTC's former manager, Ian Reid. Just like Queen's "Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To...)" was about their former manager although the Queen song was a lot more vicious in nature. Managers ripping off bands seems to be a common happening, sadly (Badfinger, Grand Funk Railroad, etc). |

Bill Stevenson says the song was written about his father, who he took in when he was dying and the complicated relationship they had. His dad apparently didn't like Bill or his career choices but by the end they made peace with each other - and then the father passed away and there was never another day to mend their relationships. As someone who lost his father February 2016, the lyrics really hit home. So if your parents are still around, try to make your peace with them because tomorrow they may be dead and you'll be able to do or say anything with them again. |

Ndmartinxyz is right - it's about Robert Chambers, the "preppy killer." Kim even introduced the song as such one time. Harrowing and intense way to end their best album. |

There's an excellent 17-minute piece by album produced Tony Visconti on YouTube where he breaks down the individual parts on "Heroes." Bowie wrote this album in Berlin near the Berlin Wall where you could see the East German guards. Bowie told Visconti and a female to leave the room so he could concentrate on writing the lyrics. Visconti and the woman went outside where they kissed. Bowie could see the two kiss from where he was. So that entire verse was based in fact. And the East German guards could shoot above your heads. |

| Joy Division – I Remember Nothing Lyrics

Supposedly written by Ian about his relationship with his wife Debby. Apparently the first time she heard it (when Ian brought a test pressing to play for her at home) she freaked out and became upset because she immediately knew it was about her/them.
Only one chord (E) in the entire song if I'm not mistaken (they slide to D every so often but it's mostly in an E-note drone). |
