Bruce Springsteen – I'm on Fire Lyrics 3 years ago
After seeing the video I told my (then) girlfriend that this song was about a love for a car, which pissed her of, because it was an insult. I did stick with that because it made her angry.\n\nHowever, in recent years, I have turned back to that (very unpopular) opinion, and seeing the video combined with the lyrics and Bruces love for cars, I am\nnow saying that the song is about a mans love for cars

Bob Dylan – Changing of the Guards Lyrics 8 years ago
I agree with most of what leboeufsurletoit wrote in his/her intepretation. However I dont think its so complex as I think Bob tend to write it simply, although in a not so simple ways.

The first verse I see as Bobs career (16 years after and so on).

Jumping down to I stumbled to my feet is a referens to Shelter from the storm where he sings about what Sara did for him (gave him shelter). In one verse in that song he describes how he "was burned out from exhauastion and buried in the hail, posined in the bushes and blown out on the trail". I see this as a continuation to that and now he is learning to leave without Sara. He rode past the destrucion in the ditches and is now back on his feet. the flowers I always sees as a referense to his own songs (the same as in Queen Jane).
Endless road and chimes is the never ending touring and songs of freedom whereas the empty rooms I see as a place in his memories that he keeps for Sara

The verse about that he dont need their organization I see as him dont give a f--k anymore. He have done everything everyone wanted in a way, he writes this and that and now he is just going to do what he wants full on from now on. Either be ready or prepare for the changing of the guards. He has always gone is own way and kept changing him and his music and (many) people always react negavtie and he knows he cant please them so he is saying that he is going to change again (to more gospel) so be prepared or be "destroyed"

Bob Dylan – Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues Lyrics 9 years ago
I think it is possible by Bob to put all those references in eventhough he didnt have much time to write since he wrote so many songs in between everything else. Many people tend to over-analyze Bobs songs but I think they all have a meaning and purpose for Bob at the time. He is a poet and writes as a poet. Not every word in a song has a deeper meaning but all words fit in the song. I always see him as an observing poet in the sence that he writes what he sees with a poets eyes. I agree with Bolgwrad that its a song about feeling fed up and I think it is Bobs view of his life at that time, that moment. But he describes it in a way that people can dig out lots of references because Bob is an educated man and, i believe, have read or heard stories that he just puts in the song because it fits.
For me the "clue" to the meaning could easily be in the title. It is called just like Tom Thumbs blues and so it could be a reminder for Bob about Tom Thumb that he applies to himself and his sorrundings

Bob Dylan – Restless Farewell Lyrics 10 years ago

I do agree with this in almost every aspect. I do think it is a "deathwish" for Bob. What I mean is that I think that Bob looked on how he would love to live his life, he imagined being on the deathbed and to be able to look back and realize that he was good to his friends, his women, himself etc..

Bob Dylan – Dark Eyes Lyrics 10 years ago
This one other song from Dylan that I think is merely an observation. It is written in the Plaza Hotel and I just think he is observing his surroundings. Every one he sees there are there for him. He don't belong there (I am from another world) and fakes to blend in. He fades out and he's not hearing or caring that people want to see Bob. The only thing he sees is this beautiful woman with dark eyes. In the end he says it more clearly. "million faces at my feet and all I see are dark eyes". Bob doesn't care that people look up to him, or care who and where he is. He sees the beauty in life and then and there the only thing that matters to him is those dark eyes

Bob Dylan – A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall Lyrics 10 years ago
I do not believe it is about God, Jesus or anything like that. For me Bob is a poet who rights what he sees with his poetic mind.
In every verse until the last one he recalls where he has been, what he has seen and heard and who he has met. I think he is recalling all the bad stuff in the world and he rights them in his poetic way. Like "the white man walking a black dog" could for me mean racism. After witnessing all of these horrible things that is going on in the world he comes back home. Now, the "father" ask him where he is going. And in this last verse the whole meaning of the song is revealed. Bob is going out to the poor "people are many..", to the places on earth that has no, or bad, water "pellets poison..", to people who loves in bad conditions "home in the valley..", where dictators rule "executioners face.." and racism exists "black is the colour.."
the only reference for me in this song about nuclear warfare is when he says "im going back out before the rains starts falling". I think his message of this song is basically that you have to go out and see what the world has become and start to fix it in whatever way you can before we are heading to a new world war. He knows his song well, because he has seen all these things. So now when he has seen it, he is doing what he can to help it
