| Phantom Planet – Jabberjaw Lyrics

Alex Greenwald commented on this song in Nylon magazine....
"There are references to this one girl- that’s what ‘Jabberjaw’ is about. She wouldn’t stop complaining about how a guest spot on a TV show was going to ruin her and how she didn’t want to turn out like me- credibility ruined by being in a Gap commercial. It infuriated me. And I drove home livid and wrote an angry song about it." |

Yeah, I knew this song was about Damian's friend who committed suicide. She was only 21 I believe. Hence the "you were supposed to grow old" line. I love that line so much. It makes me feel a lot. |

Nina Gordon wrote this song after having a fight with a friend. She had a seething vision of herself dragging her friend's face against the pavement because she wouldn't agree with her. Nina was really suprised that she could even imagine it, and believed it was a seething anger taking her over...hence the seether. |

| Caviar – Goldmine Lyrics

Those lyrics could be wrong. Not sure if it is fear or feel me more. Can anyone clarify? And I'm not sure about the "You feel inflicted, dirty" line in the first verse.
Nevertheless, here is the meaning of the song....
"Goldmine" ("She got the goldmine/I got the shaft/She's Thomas Jefferson/I'm William Howard Taft") is a bitter breakup song with the bonus of being downright hilarious. Says Blake Smith (lead singer), "I think we're the first band to ever drop William Howard Taft in a song. 'Cause if you can educate the kids about U.S. history while rocking them . . . There's a lot you can learn from Caviar songs." |

This isn't actually a Nina Gordon song. She covered it with her brother, Jim Shapiro, back in 1997. It was originally a Wendy and Lisa song. Wendy and Lisa were in Prince's band The Revolution. It was only ever done live and it floats around the mp3 programs quite a bit. |

This song apparently is a bit of a mystery, even with the band. They DON'T deny it's existance, but they are a little confused as to where it was actually available to hear. A lot of people are really confused as to where it came from. It's a b-side, but from where? It floats around the mp3 programs, so see if you can download it and give it a listen if you are a Hi-Fi fan. |

Same here jfd4! That would make sense too because apparently Stacy is a huge fan of Weezer. Maybe that line is a tribute to them. |

It is definately "too stoned, nintendo". That's what it sayd on their official site, and that's what is sounds like.
Someone was asking what the relevance of the word nintendo was in the song. Well, it supposed to be about a guy who just gets stoned all the time and plays nintendo all day long instead of treating his girlfriend right. I thought that was fairly obvious. That is also how the band explains the line too.
And the title is not ironic. The title is a pun, a play on words. |

This song features Nina Gordon (previously from Veruca Salt). Her and James were really good friends so he asked to to sing on the track. He liked taking her from her rock roots to put her in a more mellow sounding song because he thought her voice had a lot of character. Nina later appears on James' solo album on the track "Beauty". |

It's not femminine, it's more nasal, but I like it. It works somehow. Anyhow, Stacy said he wrote this song in a bathroom somewhere because it was really noisy and it was the only quiet place he could find. Apparently he wrote it really quickly, if I remember correctly it was about 15 minutes. |

| Caviar – Tangerine Speedo Lyrics

|
The lead singer, Blake Smith, went on holiday to Costa Rica around New Years Eve, 1999 because he wanted to avoid any major cities cause he thought something terrible would happen at the turn of the century. While he was there he went on a tour around the resort and the tour guide was wearing tangerine speedos. He thought nothing of it untill he kept seeing him around wearing the speedos. No matter what time of day or location he would be wearing these tangerine speedos, even while chatting up girls in all the bars. So there actually really is a tangerine speedo guy! |
