On the surface it sounds it's about a man who is counting down the time until he gets out of jail. There seems to be a darker sub-text, though, starting with the opening chorus: "I hope everyone missed you, you know they want you to stay". I think it's about a man who's in jail for domestic assault and is fantasizing about hurting the object of his 'affection'/obsession when he gets out. "Don't stop to do what you're thinking, you're just wasting your time." sounds like a threat. |

This, to me, is a 'call and response' song - It's Alicia's prayer, and God's response and promise that He will be there. I always find comfort and empowerment in this when I hear it. <3 |
