I have no contact with the author, but to me the meaning is crystal clear. These are the words of an angel that knows he must walk away from one whose hand he once held when they needed it most. I mean a real one, not an angel from any biblical or other mythology. Most real angels don't even know what they are. The most revealing lines are 'Please understand this is who I am, And who I'll still be when I've walked away from here', and the last line. The lyrics are in the style of being spoken to someone, but it's easy to imagine the speaker thinking 'To the darkened skies once more, and ever onward.' after he turns to walk away. |
