| Michael Gira said in an interview recently the song is based on a short story he wrote. In the story the man wakes up with a hard-on needing to take a piss, he'd been drinking at party or something. He opens the door into the next room and he sees a man raping a child, a little girl. Instead of running in and bashing the rapist's head in or something he decides to go back to sleep. That's why he's a coward, useless... Tha's why he wants to be killed. It's a pain of unlivable intensity to remember his failure help the child. Who wouldn't feel this way? I don't know about the 'I love you', I haven't read the short story though. There's a live performance recorded in Copehagen, 2013 I think, on youtube. It's incredible. | |
