David Bowie – Young Americans Lyrics 10 years ago
Never listened to lyrics much when I was a Young American - too difficult, just took in the music and the manner in which the lead singer yowled..but MAN..David Bowie laid down some heavy shit here..this is Dylan like..scathing rebuke of America's glorification of youth and the grind of life as soon as the ring is on.

The Mamas & the Papas – Look Through My Window Lyrics 10 years ago
Funny that only now 40 years later do I listen to this song and am awed by the lyrics and the musical complexity- all done on a mere 8 tracks. Guess in my youth I was put off by the strings. John Edmund Andrew Phillips you were a screwed up human being but man, a master of songwriting.

What I have such a hard time accepting is how a songwriter like John who was such an artistic genius - whose words resonate with us 50 years after being written - could be such a monumental, awful person in real life.

Steely Dan – Do It Again Lyrics 10 years ago
Great to hear all your comments, a little from each of you helps me make some sense of the puzzle of Steely's lyrics. For me it's a poem of life in the snakepit around Las Vegas where "stealing someone's water" as in a desert well on your property, might be a lot more serious than it sounds. "Wheels turning round" works as the highway, the roulette wheel, or that karmic cycle of habit as suggested. "Handle in your hand" is for sure the one armed bandit, the slot machine. The betrayal of his lovers is self explanatory. What a masterful song and Denny Diaz' solo is one of the greatest in ALL OF ROCK!!!!
