Genesis – One For The Vine Lyrics 3 years ago
I think this song\'s about exploration, whether musically or something else, the long, hard journey that sometimes leads to nothing. Similar to \'Mad Man Moon\' in the previous album in the sense. As a PhD candidate I can deeply connect to it, since the \'exploration\' could also mean my research.

Pete Townshend – The Sea Refuses No River Lyrics 3 years ago
I believe this song\'s about quitting drugs, overcoming depression, and returning to a normal life. Would also work brilliantly as a sequel to Quadrophenia IMHO. If only Keith Moon had pulled it through like Pete!\r\n\r\nThe spiritual reference is probably Meher Baba, re-phrased in Christian ways so an average English-speaking listener will find it easier to understand.

Genesis – Dodo/Lurker Lyrics 3 years ago
I think the song\'s about the environment and how people interact with it. IIRC most Genesis songs during this era are conceived at first as syllables and melodies that sound good, whereas stories and imageries are later developed on top of that backbone.

Genesis – Domino Lyrics 4 years ago
I\'ve always thought that, in the first part, the narrator\'s girlfriend was killed, or otherwise made separate from him, in the war described in the second part. The third part could be the narrator describing the incident to either his new girlfriend, or his re-united girlfriend, after the war.

Genesis – Me And Sarah Jane Lyrics 4 years ago
I\'m sort of inspired that, maybe after all, Abacab tells a story? Genesis is no stranger to concept albums after all (Selling England, Lamb, Duke) after all, so maybe Abacab is in a similar vein, just kept a bit dark?\r\n\r\nThe narrator is an old rock-and-roller (Another Record) similar to Jimi Hendrix. He joined the Navy and fought for natural resources (Dodo/Lurker). During the war, he visited a country (presumably the former USSR at its height) with a relatively high living standard, but was in conflict with his home country, so he couldn\'t tell his compatriots what he\'d seen in that country (Keep It Dark). \r\nDuring the war he developed PTSD, and he was in need of a relationship to help with his condition (Me and Sarah Jane). He inflicted it upon someone else\'s girlfriend (Abacab), who did not obey him (No Reply At All). All of these led to his mental breakdown, and he became the Lonely Man On The Corner.
