| Boz Scaggs – You Can Have Me Anytime Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| “Here we are in a room full of strangers and an open door” The emphasis here is on “we” her, and him. They obviously have history together, more about that later. The other people in the room are most likely not total strangers however strangers compared to the knowledge and intimacy they have for one another. \nWhat about that open door? This is most likely referring to the opportunity to reconnect at some level. “Here we are away from all danger but that open door is calling out again” How are they away from all danger and what danger is he referring to. Well firstly the danger is the open door/the opportunity to get emotionally involved again. They are at least out of any immediate danger because they are in a public setting surrounded by other people. \n “Acting like a friend who wants to know If you might come away, I wonder what you\'ll say, you wonder out again” He is trying not to show how much he would like to reconnect with her, he is playing it off but he wonders what she would say but she has disconnected from him and has left this setting. \n“On wings of the night Once again you\'ll take flight And I don\'t hear your voice anymore Tonight\'s dream will end But I\'ll stay long after then And you can have me anytime” She has made a beautiful and glorious exit, he can no longer see or speak with her. His dream of reconnecting with her this evening has ended but he will stay and sadly reminisce. The reference to “And you can have me anytime” is referring to, she holds all the cards. All she has to do is say she wants to rekindle the relationship and he is powerless yet, he cannot do the same, she does not feel as strongly as he does. \nHe is frustrated and saddened because he cannot “have her anytime” but all she must do is say the word and he will consent. “Here we are alone in the shadows of our lonely rooms” He is making some assumptions here. He is alone in the shadow of the relationship and is lonely and he believes she might be as well but really doesn’t have a solid foundation for this. Perhaps he is secretly hoping she is so as to lesson his plight of deep sadness. \n\n“Like a faithless child frightened of the wild he runs and hides. To keep from being still we run around until we lose ourselves again” This is by far the most telling as it relates to his deep pain and sorrow. He is describing things he does to try and alleviate his pain. He says “we” but this is clearly a generalization. The “we” does not infer that she is feeling the same or doing the same. | |
| Jackson Browne – Doctor My Eyes Lyrics | 10 years ago |

“Doctor my eyes have seen the years and the slow parade of fears without crying now I want to understand” It’s possible he’s questioning his inability to outwardly express emotion considering he is experiencing what appears to be constant agonizing trepidation based on his observation of humanity. “I have done all that I could to see the evil and the good without hiding you must help me if you can” Here he is obviously stating that he has observed things fairly and in totally without skewing the result based on what he would prefer the outcome to be. “Doctor my eyes, tell me what is wrong was I unwise to leave them open for so long?” Clearly a cry for understanding as he struggles to make sense of his discontentment while entertains the thought that perhaps he is to blame for fixating on depravity. “I have wandered through this world and as each moment has unfurled I’ve been waiting to awaken from these dreams, people go just where they will, I never noticed them until I got this feeling that it’s later than it seems” Perhaps he is expressing remorse about being complacent as it relates to the direction of his life. He’s feeling trapped as in a bad dream and wanting to awake yet realizing it’s not a dream. He cannot control what other do while realizing, he’s running out of time to get it all figured out. “Doctor my eyes, tell me what you see. I hear their cries; just tell me if it’s too late for me.” Once again an inquiry as to his condition while stating his he is currently experiencing anguish over his inadequacy and inability to change what he perceives to be flawed and unjust yet willing to reluctantly expect |
