So, as some people were wondering, what 'Jesus pieces' were supposed to mean; I think, she's referring to those https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_piece_(jewelry) & regarding the name, I can only think of two Annes. (1) Anne, the mother of Mary & grandmother of Jesus. But then, I have zero knowledge of religion & I know nothing about her. (2) Anne Boleyn? The lines 'I may lack virtue, but I'm penitent' remind me of the speech she gave, before she was executed. She didn't defend herself or anything. However, I thought, the song was more like an autobiographical epilogue of the album? The 'Jesus pieces' are mostly worn in the hip hop community & therefore a symbol of music? & the song might be about her creative process & how her art consumes her? (Oh & I love this song, btw. It's so haunting & beautiful.) (I apologise for my horrible English. It's not my first language.) |
