In the interview at the bottom of this comment, Andrew actually says that the first time he performed this live, his ex-girlfriend was in the front row and he really wanted to win her back, and he ended up singing free verse to her, which means much of it was inspiration not written. Knowing this makes this song that much more powerful of what true emotion can do at the right moment. |

I think it's about a relationship where the man was the foundation who held them together, but she could never fully commit. They become lost in love with one another, allowing it to continue into this dismal constant of no progression. She can just never fully "sink" into the relationship and embrace it the way he does.
No matter how hard he tried, he could never hold on to her, as the memory of once was or what could have been slowly fades away like an echo. He's only heard of the love he's searching for and will never know what it's like as he begs for someone to take notice to be the love he desperately needs. |
