This song is about a person looking for a second chance, with a friendship that he gave up on, but is wanting to mend it all. "I kinda think that we can bend, do you? " - He believes that they can not be broken, and asks the "friend" if he feels the same way or not. "I kinda realise that i was only looking out for me, instead of getting you the help that you need. "- Maybe at some point, he realises how selfish he had become, that he decided ruin the friendship instead of getting the friend the help that he needed. I've had personal experience with these lines. This song means a lot to me because I can relate the story of me and an old friend of mine. I gave up on the friendship, knowing that it would affect both of us. I regret every bit of it. |

I think the girl's mother died or abandoned them. The little sister is unpredictable and traumatized, also under bad influence. So the elder sister is trying to take care of her, but then again, she doesn't want to be saved. "so tell me what happens when the waves break, he tries to kill you and you allow that" these lines totally tell me that even if everything falls apart, just imagine yourself in a sea, and it just parts leaving you in the center and water all around you. The waves are the probably the symbolism of how desperate things can get you to do dangerous things. Also, he is trying to kill her mentally and physically, and she allows him to do that- probably because she thinks she deserves it, or maybe because she is just lost and he is the only friend she has. If you have seen the video, you'll see that she has a bruise on her left eye, which probably shows that he abuses and beats her up or something like that, but you'll see that she'll go back to him and slowly starts becoming like him. Then later she realizes what is right and what is wrong, and hence goes back to her elder sister. Its one of my favorite songs and lyrics mostly because its not a direct song, nor is it easy to interpret. Its art, and art is never in front of you, you have to look for YOUR own meaning and what it means to you. Thanks :) |
