This song is about being radical. It is about accepting the norm, which is nothing more than a lie ("so sucker for the sugar substitute and artificial flavoring") and how we continue to live in that lie because it feels good (see above) or because we just don't know ("inside nothing more than a smokescreen and masquerade.") Balloons could be a symbol for the child-like sense of wonder (read: unrealistic depictions of the world) we approach the world with and how once that balloon pops, we can see life for what it truly is. |
