I believe the song is about degradation of the earth that supports our life. It's a closed system similar to a bacteria colony living in a Petrie dish that has exponential growth and will ultimately die. There's problems almost unfixable that momentum has some how brought us to a time of irrational thinking and "monkey" behavior. I want this, I make money, I don't care what happens via progeny. It's fucking crazy how accurate this song is to reality. It's a true tragic tale similar to silent spring. Rachel had it right and so does Greg. It's been an honor being able to give my thoughts on my favorite artists music because the Internet. Im 21 and somehow this guy has all the answers to life depicted in a song for me to unravel. He's an amazing individual that i draw a lot of inspiration from. |

This song is clearly about evolution and geological records that support evolution. Some Christians believe that "the missing links" dismiss all evidence of evolution when geology only adds more proof to the theory. The whispers of acients might mean a way of life that went in such a different direction than a harmonious acient culture because of ideological beliefs. Think about native Americans or south Americans when christains came and made them wear clothes and caused disease because their convictions. Our ancestors fought for us to be here now and to not appreciate nature in a way they did upsets the song writer. Although cities are technically "nature", he probably wants people to understand the natural world and go and be able to take a walk in the woods and identify everything he sees because that fucking cool to him and to any scientist. The lingering feature part gets me good grAffin. Well played. I'm not sure if he means the lingering feature of human history or the lingering natural world we want so much to destroy. Or the traits old naturalists once had like Darwin or other geologists tried mastering. Why does the comment button say something went "terribly" wrong. That seems a little over analytical. |

This song is deep and absolutely inspires me. I believe the song writer is portraying an erroneous problem, what if religion or any ideogical entity was quantified or measured. It's based on belief not evidence and would not sustain a "trial" of measuring truthfulness. All though time literally does not wait for anything, symbolically the momentum of religion still exists today, however time will exist longer than the designer of religin, the watch, or any "complex" piece of equipment that seems perplexing in nature. Philosophically the "watchmaker" story tries to deny evolution and portrays creationism. The song writer is saying it's too late to debate this thing and it will just have to work itself out of our behavior which is a phenotypical relationship, which is my thoughts on genetics, although some may disagree and say that's not even relevant. Some people look at sermons as someone who is friends with the snake oil guy and helps him sell it. It's bullshit, but keeps people positive. The song writer probably doesn't buy into the dogmas of religion and would rather drop things that gave us a brutal past. Positivity is crucial in life in all aspects. Although science professors can be sanctimonious assholes, this guy is honest and his passion is to educate..... Whether it is an accurate tale of this song, or whether the song writer just wanted to sing about cryptic cool melodic philosophical literature, it made me think and for that I thank him for his contributions to society. Without him I would not have gone down the science path and would have a different perspective of maybe irrational thinking. |
