I love the way Gareth can take his own lyrics and make them feel like they were ripped right out of your own head. The b-sides LC has have to be some of my favorite gems of all time but this one is really up there. Something so clear and raw, like salt on a wound Gareth's voice stings in the best way possible. |

My neighbor would practice this song on guitar and I could hear him playing it through the windows as I'd work on sewing. I never talked to my neighbor much but ended up becoming a fan of 311 because of him. |

When I first started listening to The Smiths as a young teenager, I thought this song was about depression, self hatred and loathing, etc like much of Morrissey's lyrics but looking back at them now, I see that he's saying no matter what you do in your life, you will always be sick. I had a serious addition to prescription drugs for a couple of years and this song always resinated with me because of that. Even more so now that I've been diagnosed with a slew of medical problems that result in having to take pills every just to function. I escaped my addition, my emotional pain, only to be given it back in ten fold. Now that I have a chronic illness, I will have to take medication for the rest of my life. I am indeed and will always be, still ill. |

A big part of what this song means to me personally is having someone in your life who is physically always coming and going. You both experience your pain and tribulations in different locations, but emotionally you are always right there waiting for them. When they come back it's like nothing ever happened. One of you goes to run in the other direction, not for any particular reason but when you look back you've seen that you've left the other behind again. It's about loving and waiting, watching and sacrificing for this person who don't know how or why they came into your life but you're willing to do whatever it takes to keep them there. God has a master plan, we were brought together through celestial powers, SOMETHING bigger than each other and if one of us has to go that is okay because the other will wait like we always have. My name has made the list, I wish I'd give you one last kiss. Although you regret all the times the goodbyes weren't what you wanted it's okay because the goodbyes don't matter anyone. You will see them again in one way or another because you hold them in your heart.
