| Does anyone know what's being described in the third verse? I can't seem to figure out what's meant by "pretty soon she'll be leaving" and "the life she'll leave behind." Is it Sara's apparent suicide, or her going away somewhere? | |

Ben how do you know exactly how I'm feeling?? I think this song is about a failed romance between a man and a woman. It switches between the first and third person, but still describes the same couple. Interestingly, it begins with the ending - the man's apparent death as "he was thrown head on into the traffic." The next few verses describe the events leading up the to this - the first verse depicting the man's attempts to reconnect with his partner, and the next his attempts to confront her. The song's events are intended to mirror the fantasies and feeling of Ben Folds and his listeners. I know they do mine, and the commenters on this page! |
