@[WIll2013:17868] Agree pretty much totally with your interpretation. Despite the music video it's definitely NOT about the US but contrasting the US, or even the secular west with those who are driven by religion, most likely Jihadis. "The chosen" probably is a reference to Judaism. The "tabula rasa / I am the book" bit you're spot on with. Great song, best on the album and up their with their best. I believe Thayil wrote the lyrics btw. |

Song was written for a friend of Corgan's called Mark Tulin who played bass with him in a number of shows, some performed under the Pumpkins moniker. He died whilst involved in a beach cleanup accident (diving I assume) in 2011 and Corgan wrote this song as a tribute to him. |
